Japanese operators of contact-tracing app cautioned by privacy commission

( May 1, 2020, 09:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japanese operators of smartphone applications to track Covid-19 patients were cautioned by the privacy commission to protect the app users’ privacy rights to win their trust. The Personal Information Protection Commission said the contact-tracing app under development could be a very useful tool to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus, but that the mishandling of tests and their contact histories could violate users’ rights. Thus, downloading the app should be voluntary, and the app operators should aim to win users’ trust through transparent management, appropriate security measures, and adherence to the Japanese privacy law, the commission said in a statement.  For further details on how to track all MLex coverage on Covid-19’s impact, click here.
