( October 16, 2023, 08:40 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Six property management companies from Shi Zuishan city in northwest China’s Ningxia Hui autonomous region received warnings, administrative penalties and corrective orders from local public security authorities for personal-data breach risks, according to the Cybersecurity Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security. A special inspection campaign for personal-data protection since July 15 found the companies violated the country’s data privacy law in their storage of citizens’ personal information and failed to perform their cybersecurity obligations. The companies did not encrypt the large volume of personal data — including home address, identification numbers and contacts — about property owners in apartment complexes, nor did they set passwords for logging into the computers. In addition, they did not employ grading-based management of data or adopt technical measures of encryption or de-identification, creating high risks of data breaches for property owners, the public security authority said.The statement follows: ...
