Poland scraps fibre-access proposal under pressure from EC

Brussels – Polish telecoms regulator UKE has withdrawn proposals to regulate the wholesale broadband market, in compliance with a recommendation by the European Commission which found the plans imposed insufficient price controls on Poland's incumbent telecoms provider. The withdrawal marks a backing-down by UKE president Magdalena Gaj, who issued a defiant statement following the commission's late-August recommendation. Gaj said she would maintain her analysis of the market as set out in the proposal and in subsequent discussions with the commission (see here)....
