US must regulate algorithms or other countries will, Senate subcommittee warned

And the US may not like the results, witnesses said, warning that authoritarian governments like China’s are driving an alternative vision for the Internet that’s incompatible with US democracy and constitutional rights.  Unless the US Congress takes up legislation addressing how algorithms can amplify bias and misinformation online, other countries, including China, will take the lead, a Senate subcommittee was told today....
