German consumer body calls on parliament to reject mandatory use of smart meters

( November 4, 2015, 17:40 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A German consumer organization has criticized a law under which the use of smart meters would become mandatory. The law would compel all households to be equipped with intelligent metering systems. VZBV chairman Klaus Müller said it is unacceptable that consumers would have to shoulder the cost of the technology, without really benefiting from it. In addition, the systems raise concerns as to privacy because smart meters collect highly sensitive data.
