Brazil's CGU fines, upholds penalties on four companies in corruption probes

( September 26, 2023, 20:43 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Brazilian anticorruption authority has imposed fines and upheld fines totaling 2.8 million reais ($560,839) on four companies, according to a statement. Trading company Timbro Trading and electric cable supplier Cordeiro Cabos Eletricos have agreed to pay 857,736 reais and 640,528 reais, respectively, to settle a corruption probe involving the purchase of data extracted from Brazil's Internal Revenue Service systems. Separately, professional services network KPMG Auditores Independentes had its 2.05 million reais fine, imposed in 2019, reduced to 1.3 million reais in a bribery probe involving contracts with public bank Caixa Econômica Federal and the Ministry of Health. And PTV Tecnologia Da Informacao was fined 15,783 reais for rigging bids in the acquisition of an antifraud software by the Labor Ministry.
