Amazon says US FTC fundamentally misunderstands retail market

( September 26, 2023, 18:38 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary:  Amazon said a complaint brought by the US Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general shows how the agency fundamentally misunderstands the retail market and may harm consumers through its case. Amazon argued that its policies bring lower, competitive prices to consumers and help independent sellers succeed, and its continued innovation has made Amazon Prime a great deal. Amazon also argued that while it may not be the small business it once was, it’s still just a piece of a massive and robust retail market with numerous options for consumers and sellers. “We fundamentally disagree with the FTC’s allegations — which are in many cases wrong or misleading — and with their overreaching and misguided approach to antitrust, which would harm consumers, hurt independent businesses, and upend long-standing and well-considered doctrines,” it said.Statement follows in full. ...
