US FTC sues Welsh Carson private equity firm over alleged monopolization of Texas anesthesiology

( September 21, 2023, 17:05 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Federal Trade Commission sued private equity firm Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe and the organization it created, US Anesthesia Partners, in federal district court in Texas, "alleging the two executed a multi-year anticompetitive scheme to consolidate anesthesiology practices in Texas, drive up the price of anesthesia services provided to Texas patients, and boost their own profits." The FTC alleged that, after Welsh Carson "executed a roll-up scheme" that allowed it to buy most big anesthesia practices in Texas, the PE firm then concluded "price-setting agreements" with competitors and struck a market-allocation deal with another rival.See below press release:...
