California Age-Appropriate Design Code Act likely violates First Amendment, US judge rules, blocking law

( September 18, 2023, 19:24 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Tech group NetChoice won a preliminary injunction blocking California’s Age-Appropriate Design Code Act, with US Judge Beth Labson Freeman finding that the law meant to protect children online likely violates the First Amendment of the US Constitution. “NetChoice has demonstrated that it is likely to succeed on at least one of its First Amendment theories,” which claims the law’s speech restrictions fail strict scrutiny and would also fail a lesser standard of scrutiny, Freeman wrote, adding that “the Court need not and does not here address NetChoice’s likelihood of success on its allegations of additional First Amendment violations.”See document below. ...
