Whistleblower protection to be enhanced in Japan amid calls for stronger corporate compliance

After years of delay, the government last month submitted to parliament an amendment bill to the Whistleblower Protection Act to counter long-held views that the existing legislation was "toothless" and that Japanese society expected a better compliance mechanism to address corporate scandals.
