Aurubis wins EU challenge over ETS free permits

( November 25, 2021, 08:32 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: German copper producer Aurubis should have been granted a larger number of free carbon permits for the 2013-2020 Emissions Trading System period, the EU's top court has ruled today, siding with a recent non-binding legal opinion by Advocate General Gerard Hogan. The company could get additional permits for the next trading period, running from 2021 to 2030. The case was referred to the EU’s courts by the Administrative Court of Berlin, after Aurubis challenged a decision by Germany's emissions trading authority. Local judges sought guidance on the classification of copper concentrate according to EU emissions values.The judgment is attached. Case reference is C-271/20....
