PTS Statement: Telemar must register as telephony and internet provider

( November 5, 2008, 15:53 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Swedish regulator PTS has ruled that satellite service provider Telemar Scandinavia AB must register as a voice and internet service provider with the regulator, incurring extra fees and obligations for the operator.Telemar is currently registered in the category "other publicly available communications service". The operator has requested several exemptions from the obligations imposed on a registered service provider, including maintaining service levels, emergency calling, number portability and secret surveillance. But the regulator has ruled that these exceptions will not apply, and is currently assessing the additional fees Telemar is liable for. Telemar has three weeks to appeal the decision to a county administrative court, and the company has indicated that it plans to appeal the decision as far as possible. Telemar says that because it provides its services over the network of third-party satellite operators, and doesn't have control over these networks, it is not liable to be registered with the regulator as a voice and internet service provider in Sweden....
