Security Industry Association supports Facebook in US appeal of non-user's BIPA case

( August 29, 2023, 22:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Security Industry Association filed a brief in support of Facebook in a case brought by a non-user over facial recognition, saying that Facebook’s “Tag Suggestions” did not identify the plaintiff, being unable to without any data on him, and deleted the scan immediately after. “If accepted, Zellmer’s extraordinarily expansive view of BIPA would have harmful ramifications extending far beyond the social media landscape. Like Tag Suggestions, biometric security applications will inevitably scan persons whom they cannot identify, to whom they could not possibly make [Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act] disclosures, and from whom they could not possibly obtain a written release," the association said.See document below. ...
