Disney-Fox deal faces in-depth review in Brazil

( September 27, 2018, 19:36 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Disney's planned $71.3 billion buyout of 21st Century Fox will face an in-depth review by the Brazilian antitrust agency, according to a statement today. Officials at the Administrative Council for Economic Defense, or CADE, declared the deal “complex,” saying the transaction may result in a significant increase in the companies' market shares for distribution of sports channels for pay-TV and distribution of movies for cinematographic exhibition, which could "affect negatively" competitive conditions. They also cited concerns with portfolio power and said there are doubts regarding the competitive pressure that digital platforms such as Google and Facebook can really exert in the market, and regarding the benefits that the deal will bring to consumers.CADE statement follows in Portuguese....
