App operators in China face record-filing requirement from MIIT to help prevent online fraud, safeguard cybersecurity

( August 9, 2023, 09:37 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has issued a notice that requires app operators to undergo a registration process with provincial-level communications regulators in a bid to guard against telecom and online fraud and safeguard cybersecurity and information security. The record-filing should be conducted by Internet connection service providers and apps distribution platforms. App operators operating before the notice was issued should complete the record-filing process from September to March, MIIT said, adding the supervision will occur from April through June next year. Internet connection service providers, distribution platforms and smart device companies are not allowed to provide services to apps that have not undergone the record-filing, the notice said.
