EU asks WTO to rule on Russian pork-import restrictions

( June 30, 2014, 10:09 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The European Union has asked the World Trade Organization to establish a panel in the dispute over Russia’s ban on imports of pig meat from the EU, which has lasted for five months. Russia is still refusing to amend the export certificate that would allow for trade from unaffected areas in the EU, due to some cases of African swine fever in Lithuania and Poland. “Russia’s import restrictions on European pork are clearly disproportionate, discriminatory and not based on science,” said EU trade commissioner Karel De Gucht....
