Driver in Uber autonomous vehicle pleads guilty in Arizona crash causing woman’s death

( July 28, 2023, 22:06 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Rafaela Vasquez, the human operator in an autonomous vehicle tested by Uber Technologies that was involved in a fatal crash in Arizona in 2018, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years of supervised probation, the Maricopa Country Attorney’s Office said in a statement. The crash happened on March 18, 2018 when the car struck and killed a woman in Tempe, Arizona. Vasquez pleaded guilty to endangerment and a judge in the Superior Court of Maricopa sentenced her to three years of supervised probation and determined that the charge would only be designated a misdemeanor upon successful completion of her sentence.
