Ferry deal conditionally cleared in Spain

( May 24, 2018, 07:41 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Spanish ferry-services provider Armas has received antitrust approval for its purchase of Trasmediterránea from Spain's competition watchdog. The watchdog has imposed conditions on the deal to ensure it doesn't create a monopoly on the routes between mainland Spain and the Canary Islands and to address competition risks on the southern routes from the mainland to Melilla as well as in-between the Canary islands. The remedies offered by Armas will allow for a third company to provide freight shipping and passenger services on the routes Motril-Melilla and Huelva-Canary Islands, currently operated by Armas. The deal had been notified to the watchdog on Feb. 5, 2018.Full statement follows in the Spanish original:...
