CADE Tribunal asks Superintendence to open wide investigation into Petrobras' alleged refusal to contract with thermoelectric plants

( May 23, 2018, 22:29 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Tribunal of the Brazilian competition authority has asked the agency's investigators to open a preliminary inquiry into the alleged abuse of dominant position and refusal to supply natural gas to thermoelectric plants by state-controlled Petróleo Brasileiro, or Petrobras, according to a statement today. The Superintendence of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense, or CADE, in March closed an inquiry into Petrobras' alleged refusal to contract with power plant operator Empresa Produtora de Energia for lack of evidence that the oil giant's conduct affected the market. The agency's Tribunal requested that the Superintendence analyze Petrobras' relationship with other thermoelectric plants to determine whether the oil giant's conduct really doesn't affect the market....
