TPG, Vodafone merger back on track, as Australian watchdog says it won’t appeal court decision

( March 4, 2020, 23:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The merger of TPG Telecom and Vodafone Hutchison Australia has cleared one of its final hurdles, with Australia’s competition regulator announcing today that it wouldn’t appeal a court decision allowing the A$15 billion (9.93 billion) deal to proceed. In a statement issued by the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission, the competition watchdog said it “does not have the grounds” for an appeal to a full bench of the Federal Court of Australia. “The ACCC remains disappointed by this outcome, which has closed the door on what we consider was a once-in-a-generation chance for increased competition in the highly concentrated mobile telecommunications market,” ACCC Chairman Rod Sims said in today’s statement....
