Google urges US judge to compel Yelp to produce senior executive's documents in DOJ search monopoly suit

( October 4, 2021, 23:24 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Google urged a Washington DC federal judge to compel non-party Yelp to produce documents relating to a senior Yelp employee as part of discovery in an ongoing federal antitrust lawsuit against the search giant. In a court filing, Google said that despite weeks of negotiation, Yelp has refused to produce custodial documents from Luther Lowe, Yelp’s senior vice president for public policy. For years, Lowe led Yelp’s global outreach regarding the government's antitrust claims about Google, it said. "On Yelp’s behalf, Mr. Lowe has been pushing for a case against Google for many years, and has knowledge of the evolution of, and sources for, Yelp’s factual allegations. There is no comparable individual among Yelp’s proposed custodians," Google said. Yelp lacks any basis to oppose Google's document requests especially as its allegations against Google, "conceived and advanced by Mr. Lowe, are a central part" of the government’s case, the filing said.
