766 deals reviewed by KFTC in 2019 as US-led proposed mergers top global deals

( February 20, 2020, 03:09 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea's competition regulator reviewed a total of 766 merger deals worth 448.4 trillion won ($375 billion) during 2019. While the total number of deals increased from the previous year, the values fell, according to data from the Korea Fair Trade Commission. The regulator said it reviewed and cleared 598 domestic deals and 168 global deals, including takeover of local firms by non-Korean companies such as British cosmetics company Estee Lauder Cosmetics’ acquisition of South Korean company Have & Be, valued at 1.3 trillion won. The regulator also said that US companies were especially active in 2019 in various sectors including pharmaceuticals and information technologies. Among the top five global deals on the regulator's table in 2019, four were mergers proposed by US companies taking over other US firms or European companies.The regulator's statement, in Korean, is attached....
