Businessman Pierre van Heerden appointed as grocery commissioner, New Zealand watchdog announces

( July 11, 2023, 01:43 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Pierre van Heerden, the former chief executive officer of New Zealand’s Mojo Coffee, has been appointed as the competition regulator’s top official overseeing grocery pricing. In a statement published today, New Zealand Commerce Commission confirmed van Heerden’s appointment as grocery commissioner. Under New Zealand law, three businesses — Foodstuffs North Island, Foodstuffs South Island and Woolworths New Zealand — are defined as regulated grocery retailers, requiring them to consider requests from other retailers for wholesale supply and to follow the Grocery Supply Code. The grocery commissioner role was introduced after the Commerce Commission’s grocery-sector report found competitive shortcomings in the market.   The full statement from the New Zealand Commerce Commission follows: ...
