US arrests 35 Darknet operators, seizes more than $20 million in cryptocurrencies

( June 26, 2018, 21:05 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US law enforcement agencies conducted the first nationwide, undercover operation targeting Darknet operators, charging 35 individuals with a variety of crimes related to allegedly conducting illicit commerce online, the US Justice Department said. DOJ said that many of the alleged sales of contraband were conducted with cryptocurrencies. The charges included allegations of distribution of narcotics and marijuana, firearms violations and money laundering. DOJ said that in addition to seizing drugs, firearms and motor vehicles, more than $20 million worth of cryptocurrencies was seized along with $3.6 million in cash and gold bars.Statement follows:...
