Sunny Queen, 11 other Australian egg companies face civil-cartel lawsuit

( October 13, 2026, 00:22 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Australia’s largest egg supplier Sunny Queen and 11 other companies are facing civil proceedings in the Federal Court over allegations that they breached the country’s competition law by coordinating on egg production and supply, the antitrust watchdog said. In a statement on Tuesday, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said that its investigation found that since October 2020, key egg suppliers and producers coordinated on a range of business decisions including production volumes, distribution, expansion plans and culling to manage perceived oversupply, in a way that likely substantially reduced competition for many years. The regulator said that this is its first case alleging concerted practices — cooperation between businesses beyond independent responses to market conditions — since the prohibition took effect in 2017.Statement follows.
