KFTC appoints financial-policy expert as standing commissioner

( October 2, 2026, 02:30 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Kim Ja-bong, a senior research fellow at the Korea Institute of Finance, has been appointed as a standing commissioner of South Koreas’ competition watchdog. The Korea Fair Trade Commission said Friday that Kim has more than 30 years of experience in financial-policy research and has served on advisory bodies for a range of government agencies, including the KFTC, the Financial Services Commission, the Office for Government Policy Coordination and the Financial Supervisory Service. Kim holds a Ph.D. in economics from the State University of New York, an LL.M. from UCLA School of Law and a Ph.D. in law from Korea University. Kim becomes the KFTC’s 6th standing commissioner as the watchdog expands the number of commissioners from nine to 11 to handle increasingly complex cases and expedite deliberations.
