KFTC seeks study on executive disqualification for repeat cartels

( July 13, 2026, 06:41 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s antitrust watchdog is soliciting bids for a four-months study on introducing executive disqualification and suspension orders to deter repeat cartel conduct. According to the notice issued by the Korea Fair Trade Commission, the research will examine why existing sanctions, including corrective orders, administrative fines and criminal penalties, have not prevented companies from colluding again, and whether restricting executives who led cartel activity could help dismantle continuing “collusion networks.” It will review comparable regimes in the UK, Australia and Hong Kong, assess similar measures under South Korean securities and auditing laws, and propose detailed institutional design and draft amendments to the Monopoly Regulation and Fair Trade Act and its subordinate rules. Notice is attached (in Korean)....
