South Korean regulator seeks study on unfair practices in online retail markets

( May 13, 2026, 04:13 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s antitrust regulator is seeking a study on revising the Act on Fair Transactions in Large Retail Business to better address unfair conduct in online retail markets. The Korea Fair Trade Commission said in the bid document that the current law was built around offline retailers and does not fully reflect online business models, even as online retail accounts for about 59 percent of total retail sales. The regulator pointed to practices such as shifting discount, advertising, data-service and return-related costs onto suppliers, and said researchers will be asked to identify unfair conduct unique to online retail markets, propose effective regulatory measures and present both full-revision and partial-amendment options for the law.Notice is attached (in Korean)....
