South Korea proposes tougher penalty rules for unfair labeling, advertising practices

( March 25, 2026, 08:51 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s competition regulator has proposed stricter penalty rules for unfair labeling and advertising practices through amendments to the enforcement decree and fine guidelines under the Act on Fair Labeling and Advertising. As part of a broader reform of its penalty framework, the Korea Fair Trade Commission on Wednesday announced proposed changes that would increase fines for repeat offenders, allowing surcharges to go up to 100 percent for companies with four or more violations, introduce a more granular four-tier system with higher base rates for more serious violations and narrow the scope for penalty reductions. The proposed changes will be open for public feedback from March 25 to April 14. The statement is attached (in Korean)....
