Google to roll out new billing model in Australia by September under Epic Games settlement

( March 5, 2026, 01:36 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Google expects to roll out a new Google Play billing model and reduce in-app purchase fees worldwide as part of its global settlement with developer Epic Games, with the changes in Australia to occur by Sept. 30, subject to local laws and processes, the company announced. In a blog post published on Thursday, Google said that under the updated structure, the in-app purchase service fee will be reduced to 20 percent for new install from 30 percent previously. It added that a new “Registered App Stores” program will provide a streamlined installation flow for Android app stores. In a social-media post on Thursday, Epic Games chief Tim Sweeney said the developer has “settled” all of its disputes with Google worldwide.
