Citeo gets antitrust advice on food packaging returns plan from French regulator

( February 23, 2026, 17:26 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Citeo, an organization that works to reduce the environmental impact of the packaging, has received informal guidance from France’s competition regulator on its plan for a standardized deposit-return scheme for certain food packaging sold in supermarkets. The Competition Authority said that as Citeo was a dominant player it must not favor the planned scheme to the detriment of other reuse initiatives. It also said Citeo should ensure its selection criteria is objective and transparent, and contracts should be fixed-term, without exit penalties, and divided into lots to promote effective competition.  Statement follows....
