South Korea hits major sugar refiners with fines over alleged price fixing

The Korea Fair Trade Commission said the three companies agreed on six price hikes and two cuts between February 2021 and April 2025, coordinating to pass through raw-sugar cost increases quickly while delaying and limiting price reductions when input costs fell, including by jointly pressuring buyers that resisted. The regulator also ordered corrective steps aimed at preventing a recurrence, including a three-year requirement to report sugar price-change details twice a year, citing the market’s long-running three-player structure and repeat-offense concerns.Statement is attached (in Korean)....
