South Korea strengthens anonymous tip-off center to catch hidden unfair practices

( January 29, 2026, 03:08 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s competition watchdog said it will strengthen its anonymous tip-off center for unfair practices in subcontracting, distribution, dealerships and franchising, targeting "hidden" misconduct that smaller companies often hesitate to report for fear of retaliation. The move is in line with a presidential directive issued in December. While the system already uses a technical method that does not retain even an IP address, the Korea Fair Trade Commission acknowledged that companies under investigation may still be able to infer a tipster from the probe’s details. To tighten protection and widen detection, the regulator plans to expand probes beyond the named firm to sector-wide checks such as surveys and fact-finding, cut its internal screening cycle from monthly to every two weeks and form dedicated teams of up to five investigators per field under an upgraded management structure.Statement is attached (in Korean)....
