Leveraged loan borrower files US antitrust claims against equity investors over interest rates

( January 21, 2026, 23:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A leveraged loan borrower filed a US complaint accusing the controlling investors of the largest lenders to non-investment-grade US companies — equity investors in Collateralized Loan Obligations — of conspiring during the Libor-to-SOFR transition to artificially inflate interest rates that borrowers paid on their term loans, in violation of antitrust law. According to the complaint, the named firms and other competing CLO equity investors formed a working group to ensure that leveraged loans transitioned with the highest possible interest rates. As a result of their collective efforts, the leveraged loan borrowers were forced to accept higher interest rates to move their loans to SOFR via contractual amendment prior to the cessation of Libor.See attached file....
