Apple, Amazon plea over missed deadline for Italian probe dismissed by EU court

( January 7, 2026, 11:10 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A plea by Apple and Amazon over the deadline for a €173 million Italian antitrust fine has been dismissed by the EU's top court. The EU Court of Justice judges said the national law that obliges the competition authority to start an antitrust probe within 90 days of being informed of an alleged abuse was not in line with EU law. The companies had told national judges the watchdog had failed to meet the deadline, but the Italian competition authority said the law prevented it from conducting the proceedings.Court order (in French) is attached.
