Singapore seeks feedback on draft IMDA law to tighten media-competition rules

( December 24, 2025, 08:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Singapore’s Ministry of Digital Development and Information and the Infocomm Media Development Authority have launched a public consultation on proposed amendments to the Info-communications Media Development Authority Act, aimed at further harmonizing and refining competition regulation across the telecommunications and media sectors. The draft bill would expand merger-control requirements by subjecting any person acquiring 30 percent or more of voting power in a regulated media entity to IMDA approval, narrow the scope of voiding anticompetitive agreements and transfer the power to order structural separation from IMDA to the minister. Other changes include streamlined treatment of pro forma transactions, enhanced information-gathering powers and expanded authority to issue directions to address anti-competitive conduct.
