Japan's Makita receives corrective action for violating Subcontract Act

( December 16, 2025, 07:28 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Major Japanese power-tool maker Makita received a corrective recommendation on Tuesday for violating the Subcontract Act. The Japan Fair Trade Commission and the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency, or SMEA, revealed that the Aichi-based company had required 84 subcontractors to store Makita’s 3,214 metal molds for prolonged periods without paying storage fees, despite the molds being rarely used. Recently, Makita collected roughly one-third of these molds and paid 26 million yen ($169,000) in what appear to be storage fees. The competition regulator instructed the publicly traded company to implement compliance measures to prevent a recurrence.
