US state attorneys general say settlements in RealPage antitrust case not ideal

( October 27, 2025, 16:40 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Attorneys general for the District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey and Washington asked a US federal judge not to approve settlements in a private price-fixing case against RealPage and landlords, saying their state actions are the better avenue to resolve their residents’ claims. “Here, the State AGs’ enforcement actions illustrate why public suits are often superior to private class settlements: the State AGs have conducted extensive investigations and filed lawsuits designed to secure comprehensive monetary relief, halt the anticompetitive misconduct alleged, and deter similar violations going forward. By contrast, the MDL plaintiffs negotiated the instant settlements without the benefit of significant discovery and face risks to class certification —  beyond the superiority concerns identified herein — that further diminish the value of their claims,” they argued.
