Eliminate competition role in trademark reviews, Australian regulator tells government

( September 5, 2025, 03:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Australia’s antitrust watchdog should lose its assessment role in the certification of trademarks while gaining more power to take regulatory action to address essential services with market power, according to the regulator’s recent submission to the government. Putting forward a raft of proposals to increase the efficiency of regulation, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission also recommended that the government revoke the country’s wheat port code, which the watchdog says is “ineffective and an unnecessary cost to new and small entrants” in the sector.
