BlueScope Steel's appeal rejection welcomed by Australian antitrust regulator

( August 29, 2025, 02:40 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The dismissal of appeals brought by BlueScope Steel and its senior manager Jason Ellis against a 2022 ruling means the highest penalty ordered for a competition law breach of $37.6 million (A$57.5 million) against the company remains in place, the Australian competition regulator said. In a statement welcoming today’s ruling by a Federal Court of Australia appeals panel, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said it was “pleased” that today’s decision has “endorsed the findings” made by the Federal Court in December 2022 and the penalties imposed. Today’s ruling also upheld the penalty imposed on Ellis of A$500,000.The full statement by the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission follows:...
