'Real growth' plan puts AI, fair markets at core of South Korea's future economy

( August 22, 2025, 08:10 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea's new government today unveiled a sweeping economic growth strategy, pledging to achieve “real growth” by making the country one of the world’s top three AI powers, lifting its potential growth rate to 3 percent, and raising national strength to the global top five. The plan designates 30 flagship projects, with half focused on an “AI transition,” including humanoid robots, autonomous vehicles and ships, AI factories and on-device AI chips. Backed by a proposed 100 trillion won (about $71.8 billion) National Growth Fund, the government will deploy fiscal, tax and regulatory support, aiming to secure 50,000 GPUs by 2030, scale up AI data centers, launch a national computing center, back elite teams to develop independent foundation models and accelerate commercialization of low-power AI chips.
