Two Chinese water utilities hit with fines for market abuses, SAMR says

( August 21, 2025, 04:20 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China's State Administration for Market Regulation, or SAMR, has issued two administrative penalty decisions against water utilities for abusing market dominance. Ma'anshan Capital Water Company's Dangtu County unit was penalized for abusing its dominant position by designating specific designers and contractors in local water supply services. The Anhui provincial regulator confiscated its illicit gains and imposed a fine equivalent to 1 percent of its 2021 sales, totaling about 986,004 yuan ($137,450). Jiangxi Province's Fuzhou Public Water was also fined about 1.2 million yuan — equal to 2 percent of its 2018 sales — by the local regulator for similar misconduct.The penalty decisions are attached....
