US House Judiciary requests major sports leagues to brief on antitrust immunities

( August 11, 2025, 18:54 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US House Committee on the Judiciary sent separate letters to the National Football League, Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association and National Hockey League requesting the leagues brief the committee on how antitrust exemptions established under the Sports Broadcasting Act affect their participation in the sports broadcasting market. Under the SBA, major sports leagues receive broad immunity from antitrust immunity "for agreement related to the broadcasting of their games on network television," the committee said in a post to X. However, the sports broadcasting market has changed since the SBA was enacted, raising "important questions" about whether it should be modified or repealed, the letters said.Full social media post follows.
