Las Vegas Review-Journal arrangement with Sun was unlawful, US appeals court says

( August 4, 2025, 18:52 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A US appeals court reversed a lower court's order denying a motion requiring the current owners of the Las Vegas Review-Journal and affiliated persons to continue to perform under a 2005 joint operating arrangement (JOA) between them and the owner of the Las Vegas Sun. The US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit remanded the case for further proceedings, concluding that the 2005 JOA is unlawful and unenforceable because it didn't receive the required “prior written consent of the Attorney General.” The Ninth Circuit rejected the district court's reading that the lack of approval from the AG merely meant that the parties lacked any antitrust exemption under the Newspaper Preservation Act but did not invalidate the JOA or render it unenforceable.See attached file....
