Japan's SME panel launches subgroup to scrutinize IP trading practices

( August 1, 2025, 07:52 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan’s competition and small- and medium-sized enterprise regulators have launched a working group to scrutinize transactions involving intellectual property between large corporations and smaller companies. The initiative is part of an ongoing effort by a panel that has been examining exploitative trading practices by large companies toward SMEs, which previously proposed amendments to the country's Subcontract Act. The intellectual property working group — comprising six experts and a number of interested parties — will hold bimonthly meetings from Aug. 4 to focus on matters relating to the trading of intellectual property.
