Japan's SMK violated subcontract law for unpaid mold storage, JFTC says

( July 15, 2025, 07:06 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japanese electronic-component maker SMK violated the Subcontract Act by forcing its subcontractors to store metal molds without paying the required fees, the Japan Fair Trade Commission said today. The antitrust agency said that SMK, a Tokyo-based publicly traded company, compelled 65 companies that manufactured components for its connectors, switches and other electronic parts to store 825 metal molds owned by the company or its customers without proper compensation. The JFTC instructed SMK to compensate the affected companies, ensure that its board of directors prevents future violations, and implement corrective compliance measures.
