Japan's Cerespo, Dentsu among 6 fined $22.9 million for Olympic bid-rigging

By Sachiko Sakamaki ( June 23, 2025, 06:21 GMT | Insight) -- Six Japanese companies — including event company Cerespo and top advertising agencies Dentsu, Hakuhodo, and Tokyu Agency — today received total administrative fines of 3.3 billion yen ($22.9 million) from the competition enforcer for their involvement in bid rigging related to test-event planning and other contracts for the 2021 Tokyo Summer Olympics and Paralympics. The fines follow the Japan Fair Trade Commission's filing of criminal charges in February 2023 against the six companies and seven individuals for suspected violations of the Antimonopoly Act.
