Health measures can't harm tobacco competition, French Polynesia's watchdog warns

( June 12, 2025, 03:20 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: New health measures designed to fight the use of tobacco products in French Polynesia must not prevent new cigarette retailers from entering the market, according to the Pacific territory’s antitrust watchdog. In a study of the new health measures, the Autorité polynésienne de la concurrence called on the local government to clarify the conditions for the granting of tobacco-sales licenses and to ensure that those conditions remain objective, transparent and non-discriminatory. The watchdog also warned against the automatic cancellation of licenses for importers, wholesalers and manufacturers who change address, calling for authorities to favor a reporting system.The  Autorité polynésienne de la concurrence's full report, in French, is attached....
