Japan antitrust watchdog begins 2025 survey on cost pass-ons to aid SMEs

By Sachiko Sakamaki ( June 4, 2025, 05:51 GMT | Insight) -- Japan's competition regulator will begin surveying companies’ cost pass-on practices this week as part of efforts to help small and medium-sized enterprises, or SMEs, raise prices amid rising costs and to prevent abusive practices by large firms. The Japan Fair Trade Commission, or JFTC, expects to publish the survey results by the end of the year and later disclose the names of companies that many suppliers accuse of freezing prices without engaging in negotiations.
