Amazon says German antitrust charges over its price controls make ‘no sense’

By Andrew Boyce ( June 2, 2025, 15:11 GMT | Insight) -- Amazon says it “strongly disagrees” with German antitrust charges targeting its price controls for third-party sales on its platform, saying banning them would hinder customers and “lead to a bad shopping experience.” Germany’s competition regulator said today that it had come to a preliminary conclusion that Amazon's system, which removes or restricts the visibility of offers that are deemed too high, breached its rules applying to companies of “paramount significance for competition" as well as traditional antitrust rules. Amazon says it “strongly disagrees” with German antitrust charges targeting its price controls for third-party sales on its platform, saying banning them would hinder customers and “lead to a bad shopping experience.”...
